Nicer weather

It rained a lot a few weeks ago and of course the kids ran right outside to play in the puddles

Then we headed over to Home Depot and bought garden seeds, plants and winter grass seed. Our grass is coming up now and so are our pea pods, sunflowers, lettuce, sage, cilantro, okra, spinach and broccoli plants.
We also helped plant a garden at the school too
Kai and I enjoyed a hike. I am so glad that we're finally out of the 100's.
Kai is definitely happy because now they don't get so hot at recess.

Green

The winter grass is in & our flowers are in full bloom. LOVE IT! Tonight we're having our first dinner outside in months. Hooray for fall!

Spring

Why we love spring:
-eating outside
-the smell of citrus trees
-flowers blooming
-perfect weather
-walks to the park
-fresh lettuce, herbs & pea pods from the garden
-freshly cut grass
-just being together outside

Harvest

After all the rain we've had this past week our sugar snap pea & snow peas have been growing like crazy! The kids went out last night for harvest time. They filled up baggies and brought them in to wash them & then ate them all with dinner. Days like this totally make me appreciate this garden that can sometimes be a pain.

Growing

I had to post these pictures because everything is so green and growing so well right now. But in a few weeks that will all change. This time of year is depressing in Phoenix. So this will probably be the last happy post of my garden.

Garden update

We've had a major battle with mint in our garden this year. NEVER plant mint in your garden. EVER. Use a pot. But we've pulled so much out that it helped out little garden finally get some nutrients. We have sugar snap peas (the kids pick and eat them as soon as they see them) one good tomato that the quail ate. The tomato plant that I put in the topsy turvy did NOTHING so I took it out and put it in the ground and it died :(

Green beans that we had with dinner...but they were a little dry. Our pumpkin plant is chugging along and hopefully we'll have some big pumpkins in Oct.

We have 5 HUGE sunflowers right now that are so pretty. But also covered in ants....did you know ants love sunflowers?

Now that it is warming up the roses and lavender are doing really well. I did not get a picture but our little corn is just chugging along and our new trees are still doing well. The zucchini, cucumbers, bell peppers and summer squash are not doing much. The cilantro went to seed...again. (This post is probably really boring but I want to keep track of what works in our garden & what I need to give up on)
