A Public Service Announcement

This is a mandolin.
It is used for slicing vegetables.
It is DANGEROUS with a capitol D!!
There is even a warning that comes with it.
It suggests using the protective cover over whatever you're slicing.
I, however, thought I did not need to.
I was making potato chips. (they were very good by the way)
Instead about 1/2 way through I sliced off the top knuckle of my right ring finger to the bone.
It was horrible.
It bled like you would NOT believe a finger could.
I almost passed out and I am pretty sure I scared the crapola out of the kids.
(strangely Kali asked to see the wound)
Francis and my Mom wanted me to go to the doctor but I avoid the doctor at all costs because I figure it will involve a shot or worse stitches :(
So, I made the second mistake of the day....I wrapped it very tight in a towel and secured it with tape and went to bed.
The next morning I unwrapped the towel but could not get it all the way off because it was stuck to my finger! (just typing this is giving me chills)
So, I had to yank it off.....the pain made me black out.
Long story short.....DON'T use a mandolin without the cover and DON'T wrap a wound in a towel....use a band aid!
This was about two weeks ago.
And in case you are wondering my knuckle is growing back.
But my finger is looking a little creepy.
Good thing I am not a hand model :)

Rainy day art

It's raining today.

The kids are having an indoor art day.

I am cleaning out the junk drawers (we have 5 in the kitchen-yikes!) waiting for Mr. Becker to get home from the gym and then we are heading over to the Dinosaur Museum in Mesa.

I LOVE rainy days.

They are even better when you have two cute artists in your home.

What do you do with your kids on a rainy day?

Valentine's Day 2011

Kali had a friend over to make Valentine's Day cookies this weekend. They made beaded necklaces and decorated cookies. Her mom and I enjoyed over 2 hours of adult conversation--yay!
Today for Valentine's Day Mr. Becker and I went to Kali's classroom to do the class party. It was really cute and the kids had a good time....sadly, I forgot my camera. boo!
We took Kali to lunch and had a nice little Monday :)
Then I came home to Kai being pretty sick...poor kid.
Mr. Becker took a nap.
I started feeling crummy too.
boo!
At least Kali is feeling better and went to tap/ballet.
You know I brag a lot about Mr. Becker on this blog but I have to say, he is NOT the best Valentine.
Good thing I am not a romantic gal.
And good thing he is a good husband ;)
**after I wrote this I checked my e-mail and I had the sweetest e-mail from Mr. Becker, I guess he is kind of romantic & I kind of liked it :)

Daddy Daughter Dance

Mr. Becker got to take this little cutie on a date
she even got a special corsage and wore her princess Tiana dress.
She went to salon de la Mom and got a fancy up do & glittery nail polish.
Kai had to get in on the pics :)
Mr. Becker said they had a great time and they danced almost the entire time.

Look at these two, they look sooooo much alike :)

Making the most of it

Kali had bronchitis & missed 7 days of school.
It was rough on her, she spent each night coughing.....a lot.
She threw up and lost weight (which she did NOT need to lose)
but we tried to make the best of her time at home.
We rented movies from Redbox, made tortilla chips (I'll put the recipe on Yummie Tummies)
did crafts, school work and read a ton of books.
On her final day home she was feeling MUCH better so we went to the mall to look at puppies, ride the carousel and have lunch.

We also went to the library to play, pick out more book & get a pass for the Dinosaur Museum in Mesa. It was a really nice time and we were a little sad when Kali went back to school on Friday. But we are so glad she is feeling better!

Home

Kali is sick with bronchitis and an ear infection (oh the joys of school)
and Noodle has a hurt paw.
Needless to say there has been a lot of laying around.
But I have been on a cleaning/rearranging frenzy!
You know giving the house a happy/healthy vibe.
First I had to change up the picture in Kai's room from jungle to scurvy dog

See the paint swatches under the Jolly Rodger? I am trying to figure out which light blue to paint his room.
My dad got him this great "pirate" map for his wall.
And here is a little glimpse of my sweet little guy playing in his room trying to be quiet while Kali rests. He is so funny playing and making a mess, then he cleans it right up!
He is so good about keeping his room clean.

Kali....not so much. It took me 3 hours to get her room picked up/rearranged.

Now I just need to conquer the hall closet.....or maybe I'll just join Kali for a nap :)

Heart

We got a little scare this past week.
Mr. Becker was having some issues with his heart & he went to the doctor to see what was going on.
They decided to do some tests.
Long story short.
Everything is okay & he is healthy as a horse (I guess horses are really healthy?)

We are glad.
I am really glad.
I need him, he has my heart :)
*we found out he does have Panic Disorder so he is going to his first Yoga class with me this week & we are going to find the Chi for together :)
